POLYSOMNOGRAPHY CHANNELS
BELOW IS A PARTIAL LISTING OF THE
CHANNELS MONITORED DURING SLEEP TESTING:
1. Nasal/Oral Ariflow:
Measures air flow through the nose and the mouth indicating apnea or
hypopnea.
2. Chest & Abdominal
Excursion: Measures paradoxical or non-paradoxical breathing to
determine an obstructive vs. central event.
3. SaO2: Measure continuous oxygen level.
4. ECG: Three (3) lead ECG to measure changes in heart rate as well as any arrhythmias.
5. Two EEG: Sleep staging channels. Common placements are C3-A2/O1-A2.
6. Two EOG:
Measures REM stage sleep. Obstructive apnea will appear more severe during this
stage.
7. Leg EMG: Measures PLM's and Restless Leg Syndrome.
8. Chin EMG: Clarifies REM stage sleep, measures snoring, and detects Bruxism.
9. Audio: Microphone to measure level of snoring sounds.
10. Arm Activity: Measures restlessness.
11. Body Position: Indicates body position during sleep to determine if apnea is positional.
12. CPAP Pressure: Measures and graphs CPAP pressure.
